Christian and Vera are currently rebuilding a 3.0d which failed after only 40k miles on a Discovery 4. Christian seems to think that the failures are caused by a manufacturing defect as some cars are perfectly happy to cover high miles without issue and yet others fail at low mileage.
Posted April 17, 2015. Hi Alan, I think you should back to the dealer who fitted the EGR valve and tell him to fix it properly. I sometimes have problems with the EGR valves [two on the S type] and I use one of two options to clean it up. The first is a good blast down the A38, and the second is a canister of Wynns Diesel EGR clean for around £9.Hi ihave a 2005 diesel x type, running perfectly parked up last night ok .This morning will not start, all lights on dash working, battery charged, checked fuses under bonnet, when you turn ignition key there is a clicking coming from around the fuse box and a large junction connection next to fuse box.No sound from starter motor.engine light on dash stays on.Has anyone any ideas before i call The 2.7 diesel is the only s type with a timing belt so make sure it has been changed. If in doubt get it done. Consider getting the "sealed for life " gearbox serviced as it isn't really sealed for life and would benefit if the car has done more than 75000 miles.
