While changing out the coolant on the S type 3.0 SE and after giving it a bit of a run the heater would blow Hot as required, and the temperature indicator would sit happily at mid point on the gauge. However, I had a feel around and the lower outlet from the radiator to the thermostat was stone

One is if it doesn't recognise the key (the later car also cuts power to the injectors, dont know about your era car). At least try your 2nd key and check it's the same issue. T.
